It was 2016 and after a very successful solo exhibition at Wangaratta Gallery local printmaker Christine Upton took a leap of faith and purchased 37 Edward Street Corowa with the dream of creating a gallery and studios dedicated to her artwork.
In 2015 she experienced an incredibly successful retrospective exhibition at Belconnen Arts Centre Canberra of over 200 artworks, breaking both sales and visitor numbers.
Now in 2026 Christine, having created over 130 artworks in the last 10 years will be exhibiting up to 90 beautifully framed artworks back at Belconnen Arts Centre Canberra.
With those left over being on exhibition at Wacky Bird Gallery.
‘Passions, Journeys and Imaginings’ will be at Belconnen Arts Centre from 26 October to 29 November.
‘They Didn’t Fit’ will be at Wacky Bird Gallery from now until 4 December.
Each year brought with it different influences on her artwork: from the effect of covid on the small border community that she lives in; to her obsession with circles, native flora and birds; to physical journeys taken; and the exploration of the concept of memories being like blossoms.
All artworks at Wacky Bird Gallery are able to be taken on purchase, but those at the Belconnen Art Centre have to stay for the duration of the exhibition.
Entry to both galleries and exhibitions is free.
