QUALITY Hotel Wangaratta Gateway collected a gold award at the Victorian Tourism Awards held in Melbourne last Thursday.

The Wangaratta business won gold in the deluxe accommodation category at the industry's peak awards event, which promotes excellence in tourism.

"To achieve such recognition as one of the best operators in Victoria is truly a credit to our 80 staff, without whose commitment, passion and dedication to their profession we could never achieve such success," general manager Wendy Lester said.

"We are delighted to partner with Choice Hotels Asia–Pac and many of the producers, wineries and breweries throughout the North East to provide a quality experience for our guests."

Originally built in 1988, the property was acquired by the Jones Hotel Group in 1993, and has since been redeveloped and renovated to offer 79 suites and apartments, the highly–regarded restaurant Atrium, and state–of–the–art conference facilities catering for up to 400 delegates.

Beechworth's Billson's Brewery was also recognised at the awards, winning gold in the tourism wineries, distilleries and breweries category.
