After a painstaking four years of restoration, Dinah Wines is open for business.
Dinah Wines is owned by the Buller family, who have been in the wine industry ever since Reginald Buller moved to Rutherglen in 1921.
Reginald got his start in the wine industry thanks to his generous neighbour lending him the equipment and vines to start making wines.
Reginald’s neighbour also sold him three draft horses, Billy, Model and the winery’s namesake, Dinah, who had three sound legs and a fourth badly affected with rheumatism.
Almost 100 years later in 2019, Richard and Susan Buller alongside their daughter Kate and her children, Rippon, Ivy and Archer purchased a 57-year-old run down vineyard in desperate need of saving.
They had spent much of last year working on the construction and completion of the ‘Big Green Shed’ which houses the cellar door.
Kate said, like many of the Rutherglen wineries, Dinah Wines is a generational business, where you can currently find three generations on site at any one time.
According to Kate, they are a very tight-knit family who work well together.
This includes her children who have started joining in through hand picking the grapes and navigating the vineyard of tractors.
Kate said while the family had over 100 years of history in the wine businesses, starting fresh with a new winery has been an advantage for them as it allows them to blend both the old and the new.
Some of the wines they are currently offering range from a sweeter Moscato, a tannin rich Shiraz to fortified wines.
Dinah Wines Cellar Door offers a relaxed and authentic tasting experience at one of the region’s family-owned Rutherglen Wineries, proudly continuing the long-standing Buller winemaking tradition.
Located in Wahgunyah, Dinah Wines welcomes visitors to enjoy guided wine tastings featuring classic Rutherglen styles alongside contemporary table wines and fortified wines.
Outside of the restored vineyard, they also have a Chiltern vineyard planted by the family in the 1990s that is home to their shiraz and Reginald’s distillery that he created in the 1950s in Beverford.
