Festive fun, culinary delights get season off to great start at Falls

By Michelle Lovell, president Falls Creek Chamber of Commerce

THE 2025 snow season launched in spectacular style at Falls Creek, with a bustling opening weekend that celebrated not only the return of winter with a 71 cm snowstorm, but also the village’s thriving food, drink and ski culture.

A taste of the High Country

The newly renovated Cloud 9 Restaurant, perched at the top of Halley’s Comet chairlift, welcomed guests to its spectacularly renovated space with panoramic views of the snow-covered peaks - it was a top pick for skiers and sightseers alike.

Down in the Village Bowl, the Frying Pan Inn served up its famous smoked meats and craft beers.

The venue hosted the Falls Creek Legends Lunch, where guests enjoyed signature cajun chicken or ribs while hearing tales from the mountain’s early days, and being transported back in time with vintage fashion from I Dream of Snow.

Astra Falls Creek, the village’s luxury lodge, reopened with a refreshed seasonal menu featuring locally sourced produce.

Highlights included miso glazed humpty doo and a matcha rice pudding brulee with pineapple.

1550 Restaurant impressed with its modern alpine cuisine, offering dishes like seared duck breast with Yarra Valley Feta and wild mushroom ravioli with truffle.

The Chophouse catered to meat lovers with tomahawk steaks, slow-cooked ribs, and a signature smoked bourbon glaze, while Caroona Cantina brought Latin flair with tacos, nachos, and spicy margaritas in it’s rejuvenated restaurant space.

Falls Creek Hotel delivered its classic deck lunch service, serving schnitzels, burgers, and hearty soups with unbeatable views of the Summit area and the incoming snow storm.

Someplace Else Burger bar is back in town with all the classics, and their signature Mac N Cheese.

Lakeside Lodge made a grand entrance into the season with its Opening Dinner Service on Saturday night, featuring the crowd favourite Tawonga butcher bangers and mash back on the menu beside the roaring fire.

The evening culminated in a spectacular fireworks display lighting up the sky and marking the official start of winter in dazzling style, making it one of the most memorable moments of the weekend.

Gearing up for the slopes

Visitors were well taken care of by Falls Creek’s top-tier ski and snowboard rental outlets:
