Hazmat truck fire closes Hume, destroys vehicle

A major truck fire forced the closure of the Hume Freeway in both directions for 28 hours at Baddaginnie on Thursday 16 October while 10 CFA and emergency vehicles rushed to the blaze at about 2:30pm.

Early reports described EPA hazardous material officers at the scene to determine possible drinking water contamination from the truck's cargo.

The vehicle was completely destroyed by the blaze.

The driver was able to exit the cabin unharmed.
