For more than two decades, The Rockery Gemstone Museum has stood as one of Longwood’s most distinctive and welcoming attractions.
Even better, entry is completely free, making it an unbeatable stop for travellers exploring the North East.
Housed in a brightly painted building that’s impossible to miss, the museum is proudly operated by local legend Maurie Brodie, whose passion for gemstones, fossils, crystals and minerals shines through every corner of the nine-room collection.
Visitors of all ages, tourists, school groups, car clubs and curious passers-by, are treated to an experience that blends education, storytelling and visual delight.
Inside, each room is dedicated to a different theme or colour palette, including the popular fossil room, blue room and pink room.
But the real showstopper is the illuminated crystal room.
Hidden behind a curtain, this glowing chamber bursts into colour as vibrant gemstones light up the darkness, an unforgettable moment, especially for children.
Beyond gemstones, The Rockery showcases a remarkable variety of surprises: fossils, vintage bottles, artefacts, petrified wood and even model Holden cars.
Lucky visitors may also witness Mr Brodie’s private vehicle collection, headlined by his exceptionally rare 1977 Holden HZ Premier.
After exploring, guests are invited to relax with tea or coffee served personally by Mr Brodie in the charming tea room.
Any item purchased comes with detailed information about its age, origin and history.
Open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am–5pm, The Rockery is the ideal free attraction for anyone visiting Longwood or travelling through North East Victoria.
