It’s cherry season in Yarck

FROM mid–November to mid–January, Koala Cherries opens its shed door in Northern Victoria, welcoming cherry lovers from far and wide.

A trip to Yarck is for many an annual tradition, where visitors can purchase Koala's freshest picked cherries.

It's also a chance to grab a cherry ice cream or cherry pie on the way through.

Koala Cherries is a fourth–generation family owned and operated business based in Yarck, an easy two–hour drive northeast of Melbourne.

Cousins Michael and Simon Rouget manage the business with the assistance of their families and a valued team of dedicated staff.

From its humble beginnings in 1944, Koala Cherries has grown into one of the largest cherry growers and packers in Australia.

In that time, Koala has developed a reputation as a premium cherry brand, famous in Australia and overseas for exceptional flavour and consistency.

The cherry season is an exciting time in Yarck when Koala's permanent workforce of 52 swells to well over 1000.

People of all ages and nationalities descend on Yarck to help pick, pack and distribute Koala's premium cherries.

"We love it when the cherries start coming in and we welcome back our seasonal staff, many of whom have worked with us for many seasons," CEO Michael Rouget said.

To ensure Koala have the best cherries every day of the season, they have orchards in three growing regions – Cobram, Yarck/Alexandra and Strathbogie.

The Yarck shed door, as it is known, has a constant stream of visitors during the season.

As well as purchasing cherries, customers can learn about cherry production and sample the large range of locally made cherry products on offer including cherry liqueur, vinegar, jam, and sauces.

With a new café on site offering delicious barista coffee and locally made cherry themed cakes, this is your one stop for everything cherry.
